Send Flowers this Christmas

Posted by: grahammiller on: November 10, 2009

Flowers still aren’t as popular at Christmas as they are for other occasions, but each year more and more Christmas flowers are sent in the UK, particularly the seasonal poinsettia.

Flowers make beautiful Christmas gifts, florists create wonderful festive bouquets in reds, golds, greens and whites, and they can really brighten up your home.

Looking for Halloween flowers

Posted by: grahammiller on: October 26, 2009

Halloween isn’t the most popular time of the year to send flowers, but there are some beautiful Autumn flowers available.

I especially love the colours of the Autumn Falls bouquet from Clare Florist, I’m sure anyone would be happy to receive that. It would look great next to your scary pumpkin carving!

Top Ten Funny Messages Sent with Flowers

Posted by: grahammiller on: July 7, 2009

Everyone buys flowers online these days, but those old enough probably remember the embarassment of ordering flowers over the phone, especially having to dictate a soppy message to their loved one to a florist. “Is that snuggley with an e-y or just a y sir?”.

So now that we’re spared this humiliation, what’s the funniest or most unusual flower message you’ve ever sent or received? Our favourite ten are:

  • Thanks for rescuing my weasel.
  • Happy birthday, hope you’re not still mad about the nursing home thing…
  • Chlamydia for flowers is not a fair exchange.
  • Happy birthday, and if these last another week, Merry Christmas.
  • You we’re right, it was Wensleydale.
  • Sorry about killing your hamster, although I never liked it.
  • Happy Anniversay, we’re amazed you’re still together.
  • I’m sending you sympathy flowers, because I feel sorry for you, you pathetic ***
  • These were over thirty pounds. Can you give me it back?
  • Happy Mothers Day, do they allow flowers in jail?

Some good examples of what NOT to write on flower cards, I think you’ll agree.

National Kissing Day first started in 1995, and although it’s never really taken off this could be the year that it does. So get smooching!

Flowers for Dad?

Posted by: grahammiller on: May 7, 2009

Any comments welcome!

Are You Sending Flowers for Easter?

Posted by: grahammiller on: April 6, 2009

Do you send flowers for Easter? A bunch of beautiful lilies or spring tulips would certianly make someone’s Easter Weekend, and would be a healthier alternative to a chocolate egg! See our Easter Flowers.

We’re used to seeing chocolate eggs and rabbits appear in shop windows before Easter, and you might be attending an Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday, but did you know that:

  • In Bermuda people fly kites to symbolize Christ’s ascent.
  • It is tradition in Norway to solve murder mysteries at Easter.
  • In the Czech Republic a tradition of spanking or whipping is carried out on Easter Monday.

Valentines Day Factoids

Posted by: grahammiller on: February 6, 2009

Did you know that:

  • Valentines Day is said to originate from the story of Saint Valentine, who upon rejection by his mistress was so heartbroken that he cut out his still-beating heart and sent it to her as a token of his undying love.
  • Every year over 1 billion Valentines cards are sent.
  • Cupid was the son of Venus, the Roman god of love and beauty.
  • Superstition says that the first man an unmarried woman sees on 14th February will be her future husband.
  • In Saudi Arabia in 2008, religious police banned the sale of all Valentine’s Day items, telling shop workers to remove any red items, as the day is considered an un-Islamic holiday. This ban created a black market of roses and wrapping paper.
  • if a woman sees a robin flying overhead on Valentine’s Day, it means she will marry a sailor. If she sees a sparrow, she will marry a poor man and be very happy. If she sees a goldfinch, she will marry a rich person.
